When Lorraine contacted me about documenting their Church Hill ceremony and reception I knew that this would be an incredible day. Their vision was to host a small ceremony at a local spot in the neighborhood with a private reception to follow at The Roosevelt.
Earlier this year I had the privilege of photographing a beautiful in-home session, welcoming the arrival of baby Schaefer into the Fitzgerald family.
We met Aimee and Wyatt very soon after we moved into our Church Hill home last March, and I convinced them to do a lifestyle session with me just a few months later in the thick of our lush and wild Virginia summer.
Last October we did a little styled elopement at Blue Bee Cider in the Scott’s Addition area of Richmond. I was inspired by the golden, sunset hues and abundant apples from our Virginia autumns, and worked with Fleure Studio to create a table scape reminiscent of this vibrant and lush time of year.
I had the pleasure of photographing Rebekah and Donald’s September wedding a couple of weekend’s ago, and I realized that I never shared their August 2021 engagement session on the journal!
I was very fortunate last year to meet Kristina Oh of Fleure Studio last year, and to photograph her summer workshop at Phosphene in Fredericksburg. Kristina is truly an artist, and witnessing her teach her craft to others was a beautiful and fulfilling experience.
Sheena reached out to me earlier this year about celebrating her baby boy’s 1st birthday with a family lifestyle session. We talked about documenting a typical Saturday morning in the Jeffers household to capture the little routines that the three of them have developed and enjoyed together over the last year.
One of the many things I love about Virginia is the vast and diverse selection of terrain and geographical features that it offers, from gorgeous mountain ranges and rolling hills, to lush gardens and sandy beaches.
It’s my distinct pleasure to finally share this beautiful and joyous wedding celebration from January with the world! I normally place the film images I take in a separate folder when I deliver wedding galleries (which I may reconsider after this!), so seeing the film and digital images come together to tell the entire story in this journal post is extra special. Annaliese and Matt are incredibly warm and fun individuals, so their wedding celebration at Common House RVA was a perfect reflection of their personalities and relationship, together. They were married earlier in 2021, so their 2022 winter celebration started the moment they walked in the door for their music-filled cocktail reception, and didn’t end until the final song was played on the dance floor.
Last summer I photographed an intimate elopement on the James River in Richmond, Virginia on both digital and film mediums. I worked very closely with Adin and Tim to craft an elopement that was meaningful to them, so the spot at the river where they frequently spend their summer days swimming and kayaking was the perfect place to exchange their private vows.
Kelsey Sykes from Old Time Feeling and I put together a dream elopement last March, featuring her whimsical floral arrangements, vintage flare, and a blooming garden, to showcase our Foraged & Found intimate wedding offerings.
I feel there is nice symmetry with writing about my last 2021 wedding as my first journal entry of 2022. Emily and Edward were married at the majestic Dover Hall on an uncharacteristically warm day in December.
This summer was filled with so much love and beauty, and this Charlottesville engagement session was certainly no exception. From the initial planning stages, Amber and Joe wanted to choose a location that was unique and special to them. They often spend time together at art galleries, so Amber enthusiastically suggested that we visit Les Yeux du Monde as the venue for their engagement session.
This spring I did a lot of experimenting with 35mm film after I bought my very first fully-manual SLR: a Pentax K1000 that I have grown to love dearly, and very quickly.
