About Jackie Tara Studios

I'm so glad you're here! I'm Jackie - a natural light portrait and lifestyle photographer from Virginia with a passion for travel, coffee, my husband Bryan, and our dogs Luna and Apollo (both rescued from Lost Dog Rescue!). I value genuine relationships and raw emotion, and bring sincere excitement to every shoot because I feel truly lucky that I’m able to tell your story. As a photographer, I have the privilege of earning your trust and friendship to look a little deeper into your life… to document what is most important to you and to capture the beautiful journey between moments.

I’m an artist at heart, beginning my love affair with creation and expression through violin performance at the age of 5. I focused on the performing arts for the better part of my early life and have a bachelor’s degree in music from James Madison University, but realized that I could fulfill my personal need for community, togetherness, and creativity in a number of ways. I love painting or drawing on a quiet afternoon, gathering loved ones to celebrate small and large milestones, absorbing inspiration from nature and the outdoors, and capturing moments and untold stories through photography.

As a photographer and artist I gravitate toward classic and romantic styles, but I’m far from traditional. My priority is to come to every shoot with an open mind and accepting heart so that we can dig a little deeper as a team. Every shoot is a collaboration and every day is extraordinary, whether you’re celebrating moments big or small, and I want to be there with you to capture it. Since this online space is just a small window into my world, I would love the opportunity to meet you and discuss your vision over a beverage of your choice (bonus points for coffee!). I can’t wait to learn more about you.

I draw inspiration from glimmering light, flowing movement, earth tones, sitting in the grass, hands, artists making things, classical music, landscapes, slow walks in a new city, gusting wind, long chats with friends over a glass of wine, the color green, shadows, and foggy mornings, and find beauty in crinkled noses, wide smiles, wind-swept hair, imperfections, and the small details that may otherwise go unnoticed.
